ASOS delivery!

Hello!
I've been doing quite a bit of holiday shopping recently and getting mega excited that in just under a month's time I'll be here!! I've still got lots to get but I'll start by showing you my recent Asos order! I always like it when it's delivered in a box, it's more exciting that way, not sure why!

I'd seen GemsMaquillage talking about it here a few weeks ago and wanted to give it a try! It's a liquid which is very odd for a blush but I really like it so far and will be doing a full review soon!

I finally got one of these! I've heard so many people say good things about them and I can see why, it's so good and I'm hoping that less breakages as a result of using this will mean my hair might grow a little bit before my holiday! fingers crossed...

I thought this was soooo cute, and as I don't want to be lugging round my massive Zara basket bag with my round Italy I thought I needed something a bit lighter and smaller! I love tan bags as well because they go with everything.

When I ordered this online I didn't realise it had the little plastic flower embellishments on the top,  (the fact that the word 'embellished' is in the title should have given it away but nooo...) and I'm not too keen on how this fits so I'm going to send it back, pretty pattern though!

I love this bikini! I'm going to get a plain white one when I return the one above, and then mix and match the top and bottoms like I'm different and cool and whatnot!

That's all for now!

Do you think I should send the embellished bikini back?
Do you think a white bikini would mix and match with the Penelope one or just not work?

Link any holiday shopping hauls you've seen or done below for me, I love looking at them at the moment!

Thanks for reading!

Trends better off left in the 90s...

When we think of 90s fashion now, it's all cute pinafore dresses, dungarees, tartan, crop tops and high waisted jeans. You only need to look at any 'new in' section to find these trends reinstating themselves today. Wildfox, Asos, Topshop and so many more have jumped on the bandwagon and I love it! Nostalgia is the best but when I think about it realistically, I wasn't wearing all these cool things in the 90s! I was wearing these... things that NEED to be left firmly in the past and never spoken about again!

Bubble wrap bags
Anyone remember these? I used to have a pink one which I took to school, it was more like a backpack. It was hideous, I don't know what I was thinking.

SKORTS!
A clever cross between a skirt and some shorts, for those who just can't decide between them, just wear both! I had a black one of these I used to wear to school, I really don't know why my mother let me out of the house.

Do these have a name? Weird plastic choker jobbies...
These were reserved for the school disco obvs, I think I had glittery ones and everything...

Bandanas

No offence Xtina, you do look good in yours... but mine was pink and black and glittery, I think I got it free with my Sabrina magazine! Good times...

So there you go, enough is enough, lets lay these things to rest and never speak of them again. We've established I was a hideously dressed pre-teen, does anyone else remember these, please don't say it was just me!

How to be an Intern...

Hello! How are you?
Today I'm going to be talking about something a little bit different... ohh how exciting! Some of you may remember that over Christmas I landed my first Fashion PR internship at Asos! You were all so lovely as to wish me luck and ask how it went so now I'm finally getting round to talking about it, and I've also got some tips for anyone who is interested in interning with a fashion or beauty company!

I'll start with a bit of background and how this all fell in to place...
It all started way way back at the end of my second year of Uni, when I had to pick my modules for my third year, For my second semester I chose Comedy, Culture and Form (because I thought that sounded like a laugh - it wasn't) the Dissertation module and Learning from Experience, (which is abbreviated to LiFE - not sure how that works, also it did sound funny when I was all, "I'm off to my LiFE lecture now!")

So this was a placement module which NONE of my friends were in, no one had even heard of it and it was mostly full of second years so I was kicking myself for not picking the Public Relations module which would be so much better suited to what I wanted to do!

Anyway, in case you were wondering, this long drawn out story has a point; I had to find myself a work placement to assess for the unit and found it really difficult, sending out emails daily and getting no response I resigned to the fact that I was going to have to so something irrelevant like helping out at Brownies and Scouts. Then I got an email from the Press Assistant at Asos who had seen my email and wanted me to come in for an chat about the placement! I went along all nervous, but it was really informal and she was so nice and asked me to start as soon as I'd broken up from uni for Christmas!

Then fast forward a few months, I was trying to plan what I was going to do after graduation (so I didn't end up working back at the cinema with no prospects) and I emailed Oasis to see if they needed a press intern, and they did so I went along for another interview and I start that internship in June!

I really enjoyed working at Asos and can't wait to start with Oasis, yes it's unpaid but it's so beneficial to my career in the long run and also it had made me certain that this is the field I want to go in to! The summer holidays are fast approaching and whether you're at school, college or uni, work experience always looks great on your CV, it keeps you busy in a productive way and once you've got one internship under your belt it gives you experience to talk about in interviews! So here are my tips on how to get yourself an internship this summer!

1. Email companies directly. Companies nowadays rely on interns, they are happy to work just for the experience and that's great for the company who don't have to pay them. At Asos, the press team alone had two interns at all times so there are always openings coming up every 3 months or so, maybe even every month. Go on the companies website, under the contact me page and email the press office (or whichever department you want to work with) directly asking if they need an intern.

2. Send out your emails on mass, a lot of companies won't even respond but if you've contacted all the fashion stores you can think of, you have a good chance of getting a reply.

3. Also keep up to date with websites like MediaJobs.net and InspiringInterns.com which list the internships that are advertised. (You can also follow these sites on twitter too!)

4. When you've got an interview, remember to know your stuff, ('Interest in Fashion is crucial' name that film!) research the company. If it's a PR internship, have a look at what kind of PR stunts they have pulled recently, look at which bloggers work with the brand regularly, look at which celebrities are often seen in their pieces. Also remember to be open about why you want to intern at the company, they know it's not for the money and it's not long term enough to start discussing what you can add to the company, so telling them that you want it to enhance your career is fine!

5. When you've landed your internship make the most of it! Get to know people from all departments and make contacts, ask as many questions as you can and observe how the company operates! Most of all enjoy it, and if you can see yourself working there, that's great! If you can't then that's fine too, you've ruled off that job from your list and you can pursue something else.
So that's all of my tips! I'll be sure to keep you updated when I start on Oasis's Press team!

What's your experience of internships?
Have you got any planned for the summer?

Guest Post | Valerie Johnston gives her tanning skincare tips!

Keeping up with your skin can be a pretty daunting task. Seeing as almost all people struggle with some form of acne at some point in their lives, it is almost impossible to have perfect, blemish-free skin all the time. However, there are a few ways to make sure your outer self is looking just as good as your inner self feels. If you really want to take great care of your skin, throw out all those creams, acne kits, and bad advice from your friends, and read about what you should really be doing to keep your skin as healthy as possible.

Avoid Tanning Booths
One of the main causes of ugly, torn up, poorly nourished skin is the constant use of tanning beds. For some reason people feel like they have to constantly look like a sun kissed god or goddess in order to be attractive. This insatiable desire to look darker and darker has driven so many individuals to the point that they are using the tanning booths on a weekly, sometimes even daily, basis. If you have become one of these people, you need to realize the serious impact that all of that tanning can have on your skin and the rest of your body. When you tan constantly, you are exposing your body to harmful light rays that can cause all sorts of repercussions, including things like skin cancer. No one wants to realize that he or she is on the way to death by cancer because of something as silly as a tanning bed.

Being exposed to all those toxic rays not only makes your skin unhealthy on the cellular level, but it also leaves your skin looking terrible on the outside as well. Over the years, the tissues of your body will begin to break down and age twice as fast as they would if you did not tan at all. This super fast aging and breaking down of the skin will make your appearance less than desirable. So, yes, you may be the darkest person on the block, but what good does that do if you look 50 at age 30 and have the skin of a saggy old person? That sounds harsh, but sometimes the truth can be hard to handle. To really keep your skin in good shape, stop tanning and start investing your time and money into your already naturally perfect self.

Wear Sunscreen
Another extremely important way to keep your skin looking young and radiant is by always wearing sunscreen on your face and body when you go outside. A lot of people think this is ridiculous and refuse to do it. However, even when it may not look sunny out, the sun is always there, meaning those UV rays are always there too. If you don’t want you skin being beaten up by years of sun exposure, sunscreen is the way to go.
Now, this does not mean you have to be like those beach bums who put globs of sunscreen on their noses and cheeks. In fact, all you need is a thin layer over the
face (and any other exposed sensitive areas) before you go outside. You can even apply it underneath your make up if you don’t want to go out with bare skin. Whatever you do, though, make sure you put it on. Contrary to what you may think, it is actually easier for the UV rays to damage your skin when it is cloudy out than when it is not, because the clouds filter the light and let the UV rays straight through to your body. If you truly mean business when it comes to healthy skin, cut out the tanning and bring out the sun block.

Thanks to Valerie for those skincare tips! Hopefully if we get some sun in England we'll have a chance to put them in to practice! Also I'll be packing my factor 40 for my trip to Italy as I'm rather fair and deffo don't want sunburn to ruin my holiday!

A very pink themed...beauty wishlist

I want to try and grow my hair out a bit so I've been trying everything I can to not damage it, and I've heard that these inventions are better than a normal hairbrush in that they cause less breakages. So this is top of my shopping list right now, any hair growth tips you may know are also very welcome!

I'm constantly looking for the perfect concealer for under my eyes and I don't think I've ever found THE one, this one looks interesting because it has a moisturising ring...oooh

I've never tried anything by Daniel Sandler so I'm really curious about this fluid blusher, it's oil free and I can imagine it would be really easy to blend. Also the colour is pretty!

I am very unsure as to how good it would be to have your nail polish peel off, but I'm intrigued and I also hate removing nail polish so I really want to give this a go!

Have you tried any of these things?
What did you think?
What are you coveting at the moment?

Review | Nip and Fab CC Range

Hello! How are you?
I've got a review for you today :) I bought the Nip and Fab CC range a while back hoping to find a light moisturising base with enough coverage to conceal redness. I heard about the new CC range and thought I'd try it out. CC stands for complexion corrector which is apparently 2013's answer to the BB craze! It was on offer when I bought it, so if I remember rightly, I got both the cream and the eye fix for around £18. At full price the cream is £14.99 and the eye fix is £9.95.

I think that this is quite expensive for what it is, and I wouldn't even pay the discounted price again for it if I'm honest. When I first tried these products out I was really disappointed, the cream went really patchy and uneven, and the concealer didn't seem to have a lot of pigment to it at all and didn't have much effect.

On the first try I'd applied the cream with my real techniques buffing brush, so I tried instead to apply it with my fingers to see if that made any difference. This time it wasn't so patchy and melted into the skin a lot better, the coverage is quite good but the shade is definitely too dark and also too yellowy for my skin tone. But there are only two options, light and dark so not much variety available, at least at the moment. However it does last all day, swings and roundabouts!

I have also been trying out the concealer in a few different ways, it hasn't got much coverage but is quite brightening so I use it with my collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer and it works really well!

Overall I'm quite disappointed with this range, I'll continue to use it up but definitely won't repurchase it as it's really overpriced. Obviously this is dependent on skin type so it might work for you :) Or, if you don't fancy spending that much, I have discovered a cheaper alternative; I have been using my Rimmel Wake me Up foundation mixed together with moisturiser for lighter more natural looking coverage :)

Have you tried this range?
What did you think?
Have you tried any CC creams from other brands?

Thanks for reading! Hope this was helpful :)

March Faves!

Hello! How are you?
Hang on is it April? This month has gone so quickly, which scares me all the more because my dissertation deadline is fast approaching! I'll be so glad when it's over and I can stop staring at the computer screen day after day wondering where it ends... Anyyywayyy here's a few of my favourite things this month :)

Fruit Tea
I've been drinking cups of tea non stop this month to try and keep awake and alert but I read that caffeine actually enhances stress so I've been going all decaf and fruity. This one is Cranberry, raspberry and echinacea and it's bloody lovely.

Models Own Indian Ocean
I've been trying this out over a few different summery shades recently and I have rediscovered my love for it! It's shimmery and holographic and B-E-A-utiful!

Stila Smudge Stick
I've been using this a lot lately instead of my usual black liquid liner and it's a lot quicker and easier to apply and I really like how soft brown looks instead of black, AND it lasts really well too!

Strawberry Body Butter
This smells amazing and it makes my skin so soft, I've used up so many pots of this already, it's an all time fave!

That's all! Next time I do a favourites post my disso will be all handed in and I'll be freeeeeeeeeeee! :D

What have you been loving this month?

Thanks for reading!

I'll leave you with a little video to end this post, I have discovered the magic of Daily Grace this month and I'm hooked, her videos are hilarious and I'm deffo a new fan! This is one of my faves...
