How to be an Intern...

Hello! How are you?
Today I'm going to be talking about something a little bit different... ohh how exciting! Some of you may remember that over Christmas I landed my first Fashion PR internship at Asos! You were all so lovely as to wish me luck and ask how it went so now I'm finally getting round to talking about it, and I've also got some tips for anyone who is interested in interning with a fashion or beauty company!

I'll start with a bit of background and how this all fell in to place...
It all started way way back at the end of my second year of Uni, when I had to pick my modules for my third year, For my second semester I chose Comedy, Culture and Form (because I thought that sounded like a laugh - it wasn't) the Dissertation module and Learning from Experience, (which is abbreviated to LiFE - not sure how that works, also it did sound funny when I was all, "I'm off to my LiFE lecture now!")

So this was a placement module which NONE of my friends were in, no one had even heard of it and it was mostly full of second years so I was kicking myself for not picking the Public Relations module which would be so much better suited to what I wanted to do!

Anyway, in case you were wondering, this long drawn out story has a point; I had to find myself a work placement to assess for the unit and found it really difficult, sending out emails daily and getting no response I resigned to the fact that I was going to have to so something irrelevant like helping out at Brownies and Scouts. Then I got an email from the Press Assistant at Asos who had seen my email and wanted me to come in for an chat about the placement! I went along all nervous, but it was really informal and she was so nice and asked me to start as soon as I'd broken up from uni for Christmas!

Then fast forward a few months, I was trying to plan what I was going to do after graduation (so I didn't end up working back at the cinema with no prospects) and I emailed Oasis to see if they needed a press intern, and they did so I went along for another interview and I start that internship in June!

I really enjoyed working at Asos and can't wait to start with Oasis, yes it's unpaid but it's so beneficial to my career in the long run and also it had made me certain that this is the field I want to go in to! The summer holidays are fast approaching and whether you're at school, college or uni, work experience always looks great on your CV, it keeps you busy in a productive way and once you've got one internship under your belt it gives you experience to talk about in interviews! So here are my tips on how to get yourself an internship this summer!

1. Email companies directly. Companies nowadays rely on interns, they are happy to work just for the experience and that's great for the company who don't have to pay them. At Asos, the press team alone had two interns at all times so there are always openings coming up every 3 months or so, maybe even every month. Go on the companies website, under the contact me page and email the press office (or whichever department you want to work with) directly asking if they need an intern.

2. Send out your emails on mass, a lot of companies won't even respond but if you've contacted all the fashion stores you can think of, you have a good chance of getting a reply.

3. Also keep up to date with websites like MediaJobs.net and InspiringInterns.com which list the internships that are advertised. (You can also follow these sites on twitter too!)

4. When you've got an interview, remember to know your stuff, ('Interest in Fashion is crucial' name that film!) research the company. If it's a PR internship, have a look at what kind of PR stunts they have pulled recently, look at which bloggers work with the brand regularly, look at which celebrities are often seen in their pieces. Also remember to be open about why you want to intern at the company, they know it's not for the money and it's not long term enough to start discussing what you can add to the company, so telling them that you want it to enhance your career is fine!

5. When you've landed your internship make the most of it! Get to know people from all departments and make contacts, ask as many questions as you can and observe how the company operates! Most of all enjoy it, and if you can see yourself working there, that's great! If you can't then that's fine too, you've ruled off that job from your list and you can pursue something else.
So that's all of my tips! I'll be sure to keep you updated when I start on Oasis's Press team!

What's your experience of internships?
Have you got any planned for the summer?

Totally 90's!

I've developed a bit of an obsession... I've recently been to a 90's weekend at Butlins for my friend Nadine's 21st birthday and danced the night away to Sclub 3 (!), and I've been glued to watching My Mad Fat Diary on E4 and LOVING all the 90's music and fashion! And it seems I'm not the only one, Wildfox have created a collection entirely inspired by Clueless! It's amazing, go and check it out if you haven't already. Below are my four favourite pieces from the collection...

I've also discovered that I was quite a fashion forward child ;) Below are some really old photos (don't laugh!) of me in the 90's sporting some trends from spring/summer! (Please excuse the dodgy fringe!)

Collar and sunglasses: ASOS, Pinafore and dress: Topshop

So that's all, hope you enjoyed the embarrassing pictures!

What's your favourite 90's trend?

Recipe | Granola

Hello! How are you?I've got another recipe post for you today as my last one got quite a lot of attention! This one is inspired by Sammi from Beauty Crush, I love all the health videos she's been doing lately and all the pictures of her cooking that she puts on Instagram are amazing! She uploaded a video of her making banana nut granola on Youtube a while ago and I thought I'd give it a go! I adapted it a little bit and here it is! :) Hope you enjoy!
1. You will need: Oats (3 cups), honey/maple syrup (1/3 cup), oil (1/3 cup), nuts, raisins, cinnamon (1 tsp), nutmeg (1/4 tsp), salt (pinch).2. Add the oil to a mixing bowl, 3. Add 1/3 cup of honey, 4. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of salt, 5. Mix into a rather unattractive looking paste,6. Add the oats cup by cup and stir in, if you don't have enough oats the mixture will be too wet and if you have too may it will be too dry (add a tad more oil and honey).7. Add whatever kind of nuts you'd like, 8. Add raisins or any other kind of dried fruit you want in your granola,Bake in the oven at 200 C for 10 minutes, then mix/turn over and place back in the oven for another 10/15 mins and that's it!
Hope you liked this! Let me know if you make it yourself :)

January Favourites!

Hiya! How are you?
It's time for January Faves! I really like doing these posts, and I love reading other peoples too! It's nice to have a little round up of what you love, it makes me feel all appreciative! I've had a busy January! I kicked off the New Year in Cambridge with all my lovely friends, then I did the last two weeks of my internship at ASOS which was amazing, then I moved back to uni and braced myself to get going with my dissertation :/ It's going ok, but still a long way to go! How was your month? I do like a catch up! Right let's get on with it, hope you enjoy :)

Tartan Scarf H&M
It's been crazy weather recently, Portsmouth must be the windiest place ever, (or maybe I'm just not used to living near the sea) and I hate it because I have to walk to uni with an uncontrollable fringe but I do like to wrap up in this massive scarf from H&M and keep warm!

Body Shop Beautifying Oil

I got this in a set for Christmas from my boyfriend and it's really lovely! I've never really been into using oils, I love the body shop body butters and have a little collection going but I've recently been neglecting them for this! I really love using it, it dries really quickly so ideal to use in a rush and it's really moisturising on the skin. Apparently it can be used on your face and hair too so I'll have to give that a try!

Wah Nails Book of Nail Art
I also got this for Christmas from my little sister and it's amazing! I've been trying some of the ideas from it which you may have seen on instagram if you follow me, and the fact that it has stickers in the back excites the child in me greatly!

Soap and Glory Lipstick in Pom Pom
I'm so glad Soap and Glory bought out more colours in their lipstick range because it's such good quality lipstick and lasts ages. This colour is such a lovely berry colour and I've been really enjoying wearing it over January!

Vivienne Westwood Naughty Alice
I also got this for Christmas from my Boyfriend! I'm sure you've all smelt it, it's really lovely and I'm doing a full review on it really soon so look out for that!

I've also really been loving Revenge Series 2! AMAZING!

What have you been loving this month?

Thanks for reading :)

Recipe | Spinach and Ricotta Haddock

Hey! I've got something a bit different for you today! :)
My New Years resolution was to start trying to get more fruit and veg in my diet, I'm sure it's a very common one but I've noticed while being at uni I hardly eat any fruit and only a small bit of veg every week. So I've been doing this mostly by having salads for dinner and also snacking on fruit and greek yogurt instead of chocolate! And I've really got in to looking up recipes and trying out new meals, so I thought I'd try out one of my own and see how it goes down! This is quite filling because of the nuts and fish but it's only 300 calories :)

Ingredients
Haddock, Ricotta, Spinach, Rocket, Pepper, Tomato, Olives, Cashews, Salad Dressing.

Bake the haddock at 200 Celsius for 25 minutes (of follow the instructions on whatever pack you get!)

When it's finished, take the haddock out of the packet, spread over one tablespoon of ricotta and sprinkle chopped spinach leaves on top and bake again for ten more minutes.

Chop up peppers, tomatoes, olives, cashews and whatever else you want to add! Mix together with rocket and spinach leaves and drizzle over your salad dressing. I used Sainsburys low fat honey and mustard!

Get the haddock out of the oven and lay it on top of the salad and serve!

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know if you want to see more!
Also let me know if you try it out!

New year's eve 2012 outfit!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Bit late I know, I've been such a busy bee since last weekend so haven't had time for any posts! But I wore a really pretty dress that I got from Asos on New Year's eve so if you're still interested in last weekend's festivities then read on! (If you're so over New Year's outfit posts now, I do apologize, come back tomorrow and I'll have a review of some sort!)

My pals Nadine and Hannah and I posing for a picture in the Loo, classy ay!
Nadine (left) 's dress is from Oasis and Hannah (Middle) 's skirt is from Asos!
And I'm wearing THE dress, Asos, black heels, Daisystreet, and studded clutch bag, Primark.

I lovvvved wearing this dress, it's so pretty and different! I wouldn't usually wear something bodycon but actually felt quite comfortable and loved the mesh panel in the middle!

We spent this new year visiting Hannah in Cambridge where she goes to Uni and went to The Junction which was fab! AND they had £2 drinks so needless to say, we all saw the New Year in quite well!

What did you get up to for New Year?

December Faves!

Hello!
It's time for December favourites! Yes 6th Jan is actually the time it's meant to be done you see, I'm not actually a week late! Anyway, I'm really sad December is finished! Although I am glad the Christmas decorations will come down today because every time I see them it reminds me Christmas is over for another year :( So here's some of my favourite things from my favourite month of the year! Hope you enjoy :)

Models own Ibiza mix
This has been so nice to wear over Christmas but I think I'll deffo still wear it in the new year, sparkles never go out of fashion! This has big and little bits of glitter in as well so it spreads out over the nail really nicely and looks great!

Dawn French - A Tiny Bit Marvellous
I read this whole book in a week over Christmas travelling to and from London on the train. It's such a good book, Dawn French writes it so well! It's actually hilarious, so much so that I was laughing out loud on the train at one point, awks. I'd really recommend reading it!
Topshop Lipstick in Nevada
I've been wearing this a lot over December in the daytime, it's a really nice light nude colour which is also a bit pinky. I love the packaging of Topshop lipsticks too!

Vivienne Westwood Flower Orb Necklace
I got this for my 21st which was near the beginning of December and I haven't taken it off since, (apart from when I go out drinking because I can't be trusted with something so dainty when under the influence of alcohol.)

Zara bag
I love this bag, it's like Mary Poppin's suitcase! It fits so much stuff in it! My boyfriend picked it up the other day and looked shocked at how heavy it is, and I had to then explain to him why it is essential that I carry around a notepad, a diary, a book, a mirror, my purse, coins lining the bottom, my makeup bag... hairspray... 10,000 receipts.... nail polish...empty glasses case...

I have also been loving watching Vlogmas on Youtube this month especially Jim Chapman's Channel! He's hilarious and so excited about everything!

I'll leave you with my fave song on my fave album for December, Rihanna's Unapologetic!

What have been your fave things over December?

Hello, remember me?

Hellooo!
How are you?
Long time no see ay! I'm very sorry I have been a bit of a rubbish blogger lately, I had uni deadlines, then my birthday weekend and then I started my internship at Asos this Monday!
So now now I'm free for the first day in two weeks I'm going to organise lots of posts for you all to schedule throughout the week :)
This post is going to be all about my 21st birthday, which was fab! And I got spoiled by all my lovely friends and family,  and I really wanted to show you some of the lovely bits and pieces :) So I hope you all enjoy this, as these are my favourite sorts of posts to read!

First off my Auntie Jo made me this AMAZING cake, it's the prettiest thing I've ever seen and I didn't want to cut it up but it also tastes amazing so I'm glad I did!

My boyfriend bought me this very sweet little Thomas Sabo charm bracelet :) Isn't it cute! I also love the little boxes Thomas Sabo stuff comes in, it reminds me of Confessions of a Shopaholic for some reason!

My lovely friend Nadine bought me this lovely hat from Zara!

My mum very kindly bought me this Vivienne Westwood flower necklace, it's so dainty and sweet and I really love it :)

You'll never guess who got this Butler and Wilson skull necklace for me...my Nan! She's so 'trendy'!

I also got the 21 charm from my sister to put on my charm bracelet that I got as a special present for my 18th birthday :) That makes me feel rather old! :/

My friend Hannah also bought me this whiteboard Iphone cover which is such a good idea! I can draw new bits on it everyday, and when I went out for my birthday all my friends drew a little something on it for me! :)

This is definitely my favourite, my Mum got her friend to make this photo album for me full of pictures of friends and family, it's very sweet and personal. I didn't want to put the whole thing on the internet but here's one page! Ahh, Jelly shoes... If only I could wear you now without looking like a weirdo.

I also got some clothes, my friend Hannah got me the grey skull vest from New Look, and I spent my birthday money on the rest :) The Jacket was from H&M, the denim shirt is from Topshop, the boots are from Topshop, Tartan Scarf from H&M and the bag is from Zara! :)

I hope you enjoyed this post, I had a lovely birthday and I'm also rather excited to be 21, I can drink in America and drive in Hong Kong!

Thanks for reading!
