Bourjois Twist up the Volume Mascara | Review

I love testing out a new mascaras! So when I picked up this little beauty from Bourjois at London Fashion Week I couldn't wait to try it!

As I've tried to show in the best way I could in the photos below, it has a little twist top with two settings which change the length and width of the wand.
The first setting is longer and the plastic bristles are set wider apart so they comb through all of the lashes and separate them. The second setting twists the wand so that the plastic bristles are closer together, so that it thickens and adds volume to the lashes.

I usually spend a lot of time combing through my lashes on the first setting to make sure they are all separated and coated from root to tip, before switching to the second setting and wiggling the wand through the root of my lashes (rather than at the ends which would make them look clumpy!)

No Mascara                                   Coat 1                                      Coat 2

It's fab, and sooo black which I love! The formula is quite dry but without being flakey which is also good, and despite my love for natural bristle wands I actually have found myself preferring this plastic bristle wand recently! I like how much it really separates them and I can get to all of the little hard to reach lashes at each end of my eyes.

You may have noticed that I have no mascara on my bottom lashes in these pictures, this is because there is only one mascara I dare to use on my bottom lashes, and that is Clinique's bottom lash mascara! Every single other one I've tried on my bottom lashes ends up half way down my face after a few hours, which, let me tell you... is not a good look!

But for top lashes this is my fave of the moment, it's lengthening, volumising and long lasting AND it does a snazzy wand twisting trick! What more could you want?!

Have you tried this fabulous new invention?
What's your favourite mascara?

Little exclusive for you as well... Bourjois are developing a new mascara formula to rival Benefit They're Real which, I don't know about you, but I am VERY much looking forward to!

Review | Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara

I've always loved Soap and Glory, so when I was browsing boots for a new mascara, I thought I'd give their new one a bit of a try! It's marketed as the 7 sided fan flare 180 brush, which contains a V groove for added volume and length! I can't really notice 7 different sides to the brush but the V-groove is genius! When I apply it I apply the first coat using the V, which really gets to all your lashes and creates the length, then I use the flat side for the second coat which gives the lashes volume!

It's not a dry mascara which I like, it's long lasting and doesn't start to flake for a good 6 or 7 hours. I only usually use my Clinique bottom lash mascara on my bottom lashes because I've never found anything that doesn't smudge beneath my eyes. I did give this a little try but found that even though it did last a good few hours, I did get the usual black smudge below my eye which isn't the most attractive look! I think I have unusually watery eyes or something, but if you don't have this problem then you'll probably be fine using it on your lower lashes too! :)

I picked this up in Boots for £10.50 for 10ml.

Have you tried this mascara?
What do you think of Soap and Glory cosmetics in general?

Review | Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

Hello!
How are you? Hope you're all having a good week!

I have a review I've really been looking forward to doing today, it's Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. It's been around for ages and I've seen so many reviews and always meant to try it but never got round to buying it. My mum knew I wanted it and got it for me for Christmas so I've finally tried it and I'm so glad I did!

I've always been perplexed by how I put makeup on in the morning, and look in the mirror only a few hours later to find black smudges under my eyes! I thought it was eyeshadow dropping down so stopped putting it on the bottom, still there. Tried wearing no eyeliner on the bottom, that wasn't it! And then I realised that it was mascara rubbing off of my bottom lashes onto my undereye, so I gave up and stopped wearing mascara on the bottom altogether.
Then I tried this and it is AMAZING. It's the only mascara that doesn't leave me with massive black smudges under my eyes after a few hours, needless to say that's not a good look! It looks so nice and lasts all day, it's definitely something I'll be repurchasing! (Thanks Mum!)

It's so cute and small! The pattern on the bottle is so pretty just like most Clinique products and the wand is really diddy, perfect for getting the small lashes that big wands cant reach. I apply this to the top of my bottom lashes, near the base and don't apply all the way down (because they are quite long and it looks odd!) then I also use it to coat the smaller lashes in the corners of my eye on the top lid. It's a lovely formula and doesn't dry out, it lasts better than any other mascara I've used. I'll apply it at around 7 in the morning and it will still be in place when I get in at 7 in the evening! I can't rave about it enough!

£11 may seem a lot for such a tiny bottle but it's definitely worth the money!

Have you tried this?
What did you think?

Thanks for reading!

August Faves!

 Hellooo!
It's the 31st August whhhattt?! I am finishing work this Sunday and then spending the next week doing uni work and making up for not doing anything all summer... oops! But first I shall tell you all about what I have been loving over the month of August :)

First off, my Topshop ear cuffs! I showed these in a post a while ago when I first bought them and I have been wearing them loads over summer! Whenever I have my hair tied up or pinned back I put one of these on the side of my ear and I feel just a little bit cool!

On the days which England has actually seen some sun this summer, I have been making the most of it by wearing these lace up sandals from Topshop with everything!

I'm so glad I bought Indian Ocean from Models Own's Beetlejuice collection because it's so pretty on it's own and recently I have found that it's actually magic and changes the colour of other nail polished used as a base coat! I painted it over Barry M Vivid Purple (left) which resulted in a goldy pink shade and also over Models Own Nude Beige (right) which provided such a good base for the colour to show off it's shimmery-ness.

I got this HD brows kit in Foxy in a Glossybox a while back and love using it for my eyebrows, but over August I have also discovered that it can be used as eyeshadows as well. I blend the warm brown shade with brown eyeliner to make a brown smokey eye which lasts really well all day!

I have been using this literally every day since I bought it, it's amazing and if you'd like to know more then you can see an in depth review here. I think I might just go as far as saying it's my favourite mascara!

I have recently started using this night cream instead of just my day moisturizer overnight and I have really noticed a big difference. This is really lovely and thick but doesn't feel to heavy on the face and when I wake up in the morning my skin feels so soft and nourished! It also smells amazing and is very affordable.

Last but not least is my Lush mango bath melt! This smells soooo nice, I love strong fruity scents so this one is perfect for me! I used half of it in a bath and it made the whole bathroom smell amazing and I still smelt of mango for ages afterwards, and it made my skin feel so soft that I didn't even need to moisturize afterwards.

I've also been really loving to watch Sunbeamsjess's Youtube video's this month, she has such nice clothes and I love all the outfits she puts together!

And I have been religiously reading Josielovesshoes's blog this month, her OOTD posts are so cute and the way she writes is so witty and she is always making me chuckle!

So that's it for August!
Hope you've all enjoyed the summer holidays :)
I'll leave you with a song I have listened to on repeat this month!

Thanks for reading :)

Emotional brilliance

Hellooo!

I don't know how normal it is to get this excited about makeup products...

As you may have seen in the pictures I added in this post a few days ago, I have recently purchased a few things from Lush's brand spanking new makeup range!

The lovely Alexandra from The Wallflower expressed her eagerness for a review ASAP (with lots of exclamation marks!!) so here we are!

Lush have obviously put a lot of effort in to making their makeup campaign different and original, they have named it Emotional Brilliance.

They have given each eye, lip and cheek colour a name which corresponds to an aspect of your personality. The Lush shop assistant described the concept to me, saying 'different emotions bring to mind different colours' so Lush have used this to create a original and memorable colour wheel!

You can have a 'reading' in the shop or also online here, where you choose three colours which jump out at you first and these are meant to reflect something about your personality.

Today mine are Dynamic, Ambition and Charm! ;)
It's a bit of fun and I think it creates a personalized feel but will also appeal to a wide range of people.

I didn't actually choose to purchase any of the products from the colour wheel just yet but I did buy the Feeling Younger Skin tint and the Eyes Right Mascara for £12 each.

Featured Ingredient -

'Almond oil -
There are two types of almond, sweet and bitter. We use sweet almonds (Prunus dulcis) to make sweet almond oil. The almond is part of the plum family. Botanically, they are a fruit and an ancient ancestor of large-stoned fruits, such as apricots, peaches and plums.' (Lush website)

Product claims -

  • 'Magic Orange' pigment works as a reflector on the skin.
  • Made with natural ingredients and safe synthetics.
  • Can be used as a highlighter over makeup.
  • Can be mixed with moisturizer or foundation.
  • Can be applied between moisturizer and foundation.
  • Gives a radiant glow to the complexion.
  • Can be applied under eyes to combat dark circles.

I say -
  • Nice smell, not too strong.
  • Light consistency, not to heavy on the skin.
  • Lovely colour when rubbed in, almost a peachy pink glow in the light.

There are so many ways you can use this product and I feel like that makes it worth the pretty hefty price you pay for a small amount of product. The first day I used it I applied a layer between my moisturizer and my makeup. It definitely made my skin look glowy and it didn't fade either which I thought was good. I don't know if this is due to my Hello flawless Oxygen Wow foundation or this product, but I found towards the end of the day my foundation had separated and I had some random patches of shimmery bits which is not really the look I was going for!
