Primer Picks!

Hellooooo!
I have been testing out some different sorts of primers recently and thought I'd write all about it!

There have been some that I love and some not so much, I've picked five of the best and worst to discuss with you here!

I have combination to dry skin and look for a primer that will give me a nice base and keep my make up on for longer. So these reviews are about how these products worked for my skin, but if you have a different skin type, the ones I didn't get on with may work for you, just as the ones I liked may not work for you. Bear that in mind whilst reading, I hope this is helpful!

Benefit That Gal brightening face primer.

I got this little sample size with my benefit concealaholic kit around christmas time and the teeny 7.5 ml has lasted me until now!

Rating: 4.5/5

Good:

  • I love the texture of this, its lovely and creamy, it blends in really well and leaves the skin soft but without any residue.
  • It's pink and slightly iridescent so it gives the skin a nice dewy glow.
  • It doesn't dry my skin out.
  • It does hold my makeup for noticeably longer that without any primer.
  • The packaging is lovely (in sample size and full size).
  • A little goes a long way.
  • It smells lovely!

Bad:

  • It's not the most affordable choice at £21.50 for 11ml.

Bourjois Flower Perfection Translucent Smoothing Primer.

Rating: 4/5

Good:

  • This primer is one of the velvety textured ones and it sooo soft, and leaves skin feeling all silky and smooth.
  • It smells really nice and floral.
  • It holds make up in place.
  • It's good for oily or combination skin because it gives a matte finish.
  • The price is a bit better than the Benefit primer, at £9.99 for 7ml.

 Bad:

  • It's not brilliant for dry patches, the matte effect highlights dryness.
  • It says that it disguises blemishes and fine lines which I haven't noticed.

 No7 Radiance Boosting Skin Illuminator

Rating: 4/5

I realise this isn't technically a primer, but I sometimes use this instead and it actually does an alright job of keeping my make up in place. But the reason I do this is because of the lovely subtle glowy effect it gives.

Good:

  • It's nice packaging and the applicator is really efficient. It has it's own brush and it twists to On/Off positions so it's quick and easy to apply.
  • It has a really slight shimmer which creates a dewy and glowing effect under makeup which makes skin look really healthy and bright.
  • It can also be used over makeup as a highlighter.
  • It's not too pricey, It's £11 for 30ml and with the Boots £5 off No7 vouchers it's only £6.

Bad:

  • It doesn't smell of anything, and I do like a nice scented product.
  • It can get clogged up in the applicator.

ELF Eyelid Primer

Rating: 2/5

Good:

  • It's affordable at £1.50 for 5ml.
  • They have a range of different colours to suit different skin types.

Bad:

  • It's a really thin consistency and doesn't feel like it's doing anything.
  • It doesn't really do it's job holding my eyeshadow in place.
  • It creases.

No7 Shine Free Primer

Rating: 1/5

Good:

  • With the Boots £5 off vouchers it is only £6 for 40ml which is good value.

Bad:

  • It's very sticky and hard to apply.
  • It's good for oily patches but it highlights dry patches.
  • It's white not tinted so it makes skin look grey.
  • It's really thick and feels heavy on the skin.
  • It makes skin really matte and I prefer a dewy finish.

Have you tried any of these?

What did you think of them?

What are your favourite primers?

Thanks for reading!

Georgia

    1. It's so much, and considering that sample size is 7.5ml and the full size is only 11ml, I may just scout out samples all the time!
